Matteo Giampaglia | graduated in Painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence
after studying Graphic Arts at the Istituto d’Arte. Between 1997 and 1999 he joined
various collectives (Minimono, Phon, M.A.C.) and during 2003 and 2004 he has been
working as Francesco Ionda’s collaborator. With Francesca Cannoni, in 2008, he
opened Le Zebre – an artistic and fashion laboratory. Within an eclectic framework of
interests, he created the 2015 cover of the International Electronic Music Compilation
curated and promoted by Tiptop Audio Records of Los Angeles. Intolerant of identifying
with a single expressive language, again in 2015, he began working with ceramic precisely
in collaboration with FLAIR.
Experimented for a long time with different fields – graphics,
comics, video, installations, fashion – before fusing painting and sculpture in his art.
Three-dimensional paintings. Sculpted volumes for which color, often, seems necessary.
Paper, ceramic, plaster, wood, pigments, glue, fabric, metal… Poor materials (recently,
ash instead of chalk or sand) that he prefers because they lose connotation but retain
an experience… amalgamated into forms that blur the boundaries between painting and
sculpture, between everyday objects and art objects. His works can be found in numerous
private collections: Florence, Rome, Milan, Perugia, San Francisco, New York, Chicago,
Tel Aviv, Tokyo, London.
Represented by FLAIR.
